The “Flockenblume” is a temporary intervention concept that transforms a previously monotonous, sealed surface on Vienna’s Danube Island into a vibrant and relaxing place for six summer months. At its core is a modular, certified scaffolding structure that requires no foundation and therefore protects the ground. Between these modules, five weather-resistant hammocks and three tables, each with four swings, are installed. These elements invite families to linger, athletes to take a break, and those seeking rest to relax.
The entire installation is framed by newly created planting areas on the ground. These beds are planted with drought-resistant native perennials and grasses, creating a natural atmosphere.
To ensure a pleasant microclimate, sun sails made from recycled materials and vertical climbing plants on the scaffolding provide shade. A misting system and a fountain offer refreshment on hot days. The entire area is designed to be barrier-free. With smart, reusable materials, the “Flockenblume” thus creates a high-quality, social, and ecologically valuable meeting place in public space.
